Mental Health: The Horizon for Interventional Psychiatry

Australia’s mental health system is under increasing strain, with demand heavily outpacing supply in both the public and private sector.
Without change, limited access to inpatient care risks complex conditions, higher costs, and poorer outcomes.
Interventional psychiatry could offer part of the solution. Established in-clinic treatments such as ECT and TMS have demonstrated meaningful improvements for patients with Treatment Resistant Depression. Meanwhile, emerging home-based modalities (e.g., tDCS) offer a glimpse into a future of most accessible and cost-effective care.
